Tip of the Iceberg

Ho Chung Development Applications

Is an application to build two village houses just the tip of the iceberg?  A number of Sai Kung residents believe it is.

Application number A/SK-HC/146 to build two village-type houses on land adjoining Nam Pin Wai Road near Ho Chung New Village will set a precedent for many more.

“The area is very close to one of a few “real” rivers still remaining in Hong Kong. Ho Chung village and other villages release their grey waters into this river and the last thing it

Before - what it was like

needs is even more untreated water flowing into it” wrote one incensed resident.  The resident also cited the effect of higher traffic on the narrow Nam Pin Wai Road and the effect on public transit and pedestrians.

The problem, the resident stated, is not the two houses, but “rather the fact that they are not planning the development as a whole, they will do two houses here, one there, another three…..”.

Explore has reported over the past few months of a “Tourism Potential” study being conducted by HK Polytechnic University (under contract to the Sai Kung District Council) – it seems ironic that one of the two key study areas are SK

Town and the Ho Chung Valley.

What it could be like
