Rowing Across the South China Sea
Subic2Hebe Challenge
When Stu Pryke talks about his upcoming challenge – he makes it sound like a simple "trip across the pond". In reality the Subic to Hebe Challenge will be 600 nautical miles in unpredictable conditions, a crossing never before attempted in a row boat.
This is, of course, no ordinary row boat. "Sunny" is a 24ft Atlantic rowing boat with 2 water tight bulkheads and a self righting ballast system. She has solar panels to generate power which, in turn, powers an onboard watermaker as well as the satellite system and computer necessary to send videocam updates to landlubbers eager to see the progress.
Stu and John Graham are attempting this challenge, not just to be the first human-powered vessel to cross the South China Sea, but to raise money for The Sunnyside Club and The Children's Heart Foundation.
