Smashing Landscapes
“As inevitable as a breakdown in middle east peace plans” is how Tso Wo Hang resident, Dean Bailey, describes the potential for a serious injury caused by the landscaping at least two intersections in the district.
Although we all appreciate the effort put into beautifying our environment, Dean says the high edging of the roundabout at Sai Sha and Tai Mong Tsai Roads as well as the corner of Fuk Man and Chan Man Roads is dangerous.
“My accident was a case in point where a young driver failed to see my low aspect car using the roundabout and therefore careened straight into the side of my car”. He says he’s also had some near misses both before and after this accident. He sent us the accompanying pictures and drawing to illustrate his point.
Explore is waiting to hear more from relevant government departments as to whether there has been an increase in accidents at these intersections since the medians were elevated and to find out if something can be done to either reduce the height or warn drivers of the danger. An initial report from the police indicates that these two areas are not traffic blackspots. We’ll give you the full report of our investigation in a forthcoming issue.
In the meantime – have you had an accident or a near miss at these intersections or any other location in our district due to landscaping that reduces visibility? Please send us an email.
