War Games Threaten Birds
Help Preserve Their Home
You may think that those photos (click each to enlarge) were taken in a jungle in Africa.
In fact, they were just taken at Sai Kung Pier. Near the pier, there is a small island called Yeung Chau. There are about a hundred Black Kites and a couple of White-bellied Sea Eagles living there.
Recently, this silent and peaceful island for Kites and Eagles was disturbed by a group of people who play war games over there. There was a news article about this on Apple Daily dated 21st Jan 2008.
A number of organizations (Friends of Sai Kung, Eco-Education & Resources Centre and Green Power) want to stop such a thing from happening again. They are making a concerted effort to protect the natural assets of Sai Kung in the hope that we and the next generations will still have a chance to see those beautiful creatures flying freely in the blue sky.
Click here to download the petition to urge the government to Rezone Yeung Chau as a Conservation Area.
